Week 2 - Writing
-
Hi, people! How are you? As promised, this week you will be focusing on your writing skills!!
-
1. Please, first analyse the sample responses attatched below for the say-what-you-think-about-this-topic type of task.
-
This is a high-level sample response (which is what we are aiming at) for a TOEFL exam. I underlined some of the most important features you should pay attention to when writing your own contribution to the topic.
-
This is more or less what is expected of your contribution. Remember this answer is quite longer than the other task and it should take you some time to write it as it follows a clear structure. I underlined some key points that have to do with the organization of the answer so that you can visualize it a bit better.
-
2. Now, add your contribution to the forum using the prompt given below. You can adapt your answers to fit the test you are going to take. Remember to time yourselves and add at the end of your contribution the time it took you to write and edit your answer.
-
-
3. Now, please read and analyse the sample answer for a summary type of task. As before, I advice reading only the one that belongs to the exam you are planning to take.
-
Here is a sample summary of the reading and the lecture for the TOEFL exam. I underlined some key elements of the answer and of the rationale which explains why this is a high level answer, so that you know where to focus your attention. I have added the link to the text and the transcription of the lecture below, so that you can have a better understanding of the answer.
-
This is a sample answer of the IELTS writing task in which you have to summarize the information seen in a chart. I underlined some elements so that you know where to focus your attention while reading. I attatched below the chart for you to have a better understanding of the answer.
-
4. Finally, please read the text and listen to the lecture (TOEFL) / look at the chart (IELTS) below and summarize the information in them. Do this in pen and paper to be handed in next Thursday. Do only the one that belongs to the exam you are planning on taking. Remember to time yourselves and add the time it took you to comple the exercise at the end of your production. It should take you around 10 minutes for IELTS and 20 for TOEFL.
-
Here are the two prompts for you to write a summary. For TOEFL exam, you are given a link which takes you to a text and a short lecture on the same topic. You will have to summarize and connect both texts. For IELTS, you are given a graphic. You will have to read the information provided and write a brief summary of it.
-
Please, don't kill me ahahaha. I know it's a lot, but I promise it will be all worth it. Anyways, thank you for your hard work, see you next Thursday!
PS: Happy labour day!!
