IELTS

This week, we will focus on both the first part, and then some more on the second section.

1) First, I wanted to leave her a link for you to have an idea of what the oral exam consists of. This is a real test which, although a little too rehearsed on the part of the candidate, serves as a good example of what is expected of your answers.

2) Now, let's do some practice. First, spin the wheel to get to get some random topics to practice your spontaneous speech on personal topics. Go to this link https://wordwall.net/resource/73038084, spin the wheel and then go to this link  https://www.bestmytest.com/ielts/speaking, find the topic you got and practice answering some of the questions in that category. Remember to keep your answers rather short and sweet, straight to the point and if you freeze, invent things, nobody is gonna know ;)

3)
That was the warm up, let's do some real work now. You are going to find some questions right below. If you can get someone to ask them to you, better; if not, just read and answer them in order. You will have to answer to all of the questions, keeping a maximum total length of the answers in no more than 5 minutes. Please, record yourselves and upload the recording to the task below. I will also ask that you listen to yourselves and give yourself feedback on what aspects you liked about your performance and what aspekts you would like to improve (don't be to harsh on yourselves).

  1. What's your favorite season of the year?
  2. What fo you do when it gets too hot in the summer?
  3. At what time of the year do you usually go on a holiday?
  4. Have you ever been on a holiday somewhere very cold?
  5. Where do you buy most of your clothes?
  6. How often do you buy clothes for yourself?
  7. Have you always had the same taste in clothes?

4) Now, let's focus a bit more on the second section of the oral test. Watch this video from minute 7:36 to minute 14:10 and take down notes on the tips given by Chris on how to best approach this section.

5) Go to this link https://wordwall.net/resource/73038424 and open a box. Search for the question in this link  https://www.bestmytest.com/ielts/speaking and start practising using the tips given by Chris on the previous video. Remember that your answer should be 2 minutes long.

6)
When you feel ready, read the question below and record your answer. Then, upload the recording to the task below.

Section 2:

You should say

  • what it is
  • how you know it
  • what one would do to live this healthy lifestyle
