1. What are each of these people doing? Write down as many sentences as you can using the past continous

2. Write down an excuse using the present continous for each of these scenarios:

Example: The Scenario: "A friend/colleague asks you to go out for dinner tonight, but you really want to stay home. Give an excuse using the Present Continuous."

  • "I'm sorry, I can't. I am painting my kitchen tonight."

  • "I'd love to, but I am helping my sister move into her new apartment."

  • "I can't make it; I am preparing a big presentation for tomorrow morning."



  • A. The Surprise Meeting: Your boss asks if you can hop on a quick "sync" call right now, but you are currently finishing a report that is due in ten minutes.

    B. The Business Trip: A colleague wants to schedule a training session for next Tuesday morning, but you have already booked a flight to a conference.

    C. The Overtime Request: It’s Friday at 4:30 PM and your supervisor asks if you can stay late to help with a last-minute client request.

    D. The Gym Invitation: A friend asks if you want to go for a run this evening, but you have a specific home chore planned.

    E. The Neighborhood Party: Your neighbor invites you over for a BBQ on Saturday afternoon, but you are taking your car to be fixed.

    F.  The Weekend Getaway: A relative calls and asks if you can help them move furniture this Sunday, but you have a relaxing trip planned.
